The Story of iKahan
Your Friendly OOH Media Company Just Celebrated its 12th Birthday - Here’s the story of how it all began…
Alejandro Kahan founded iKahan media in 2008.
He had been working in the advertising business for 12 years up to that point (mostly in television and radio), and he noticed a game-changing opportunity that would change the course of his career, and the out of home media industry, forever…
The opportunity was two-fold:
Virtually none of the major OOH media companies were focusing on the US hispanic market
The Great Recession of 2008 had opened up a number of billboards for purchase
Alex decided to make an investment. He would buy his first billboard at the US-Mexico border, and use his advertising experience and professional network to sell space on that billboard. Both a native of Mexico city and a born salesman, Alex excelled at pitching the US Hispanic opportunity to brands looking to grow their footprint alongside one of the fastest growing demographics.
He re-invested the profits from his first billboard to acquire new billboards. After a few years, he had accrued a range of inventory offerings including traditional billboards, digital billboards, and wallscapes. And as the reputation of iKahan continued to grow, people in the industry started to reach out to Alex with even more opportunities.
By 2018, iKahan had established a “Digital Billboard Network” comprised of 18 billboards spread across Los Angeles, including on the Sunset Strip and on major freeways, delivering millions of impressions each week. iKahan had also introduced a fleet of LED Trucks with the ability to take a brand’s message anywhere, anytime, directly to customers. And, through extensive partnerships with supermarkets, convenience stores, and other place-based media venues, iKahan was now able to hyper-locally target any market segment in the US (Hispanic, African American, Asian American, LGBTQ and beyond) on a national scale.
Fast forward to 2020: iKahan has has expanded well beyond the US Hispanic market to become a national out of home media player with the ability to deliver general market audiences as well as hyper-targeted audiences. As a boutique agency, iKahan prides itself in going above and beyond to make its partners happy, and is nimble enough to adjust to the world’s ever-changing needs.
